CH Montclair Martha Stewart and CH Montclair Bulletproof
CH Montclair Martha Stewart and CH Montclair Bulletproof proudly
announce the birth of their puppies. This is a diary of the blessed event. Martha and Bullet
met at the Yorkshire Terrier Club of Los Angeles Specialty in June 1998 where Bullet won WD and
BOW and Martha won WB and BOS. That day they both decided they were good for each other and
entered into a short engagement.
The Puppies Birth
On November 11, 1998, Martha presented to the world five puppies, 3 males and 2 females. Her temp
had been in the 99+ area for 4 days and on 11-10, it dropped to 97.9. I knew we were getting
close. At 11:30 PM on the 10th, Martha started getting real restless and at 1:50 AM on the 11th,
she started nesting. I never did see any visible contractions but at 2:08 AM she
starting having her pups.
2:08 AM- male 4.6 ounces
3:15 AM- male 3.6 ounces
5:15 AM- OH NO, another male 2.8 ounces
5:35 AM- YIPPEE a female 4.0 ounces
5:45 AM- female 4.2 ounces
Martha was an excellent whelper and took care of her pups immediately and they all were nursing
except for the smallest male. Martha had cut the cord too close on this puppy and he was bleeding
from the belly. I made a pressure bandage and called the vet. Gave the puppy some Ringers sub-q
and took him in for stitches. Came home and gave him a bottle and he nursed strongly and no milk
came out his nose. Martha was worrying his stitches so kept him away from her. Later in the
afternoon, the puppy seemed congested. While checking him, I looked in his mouth which I had
neglected to do at birth (the bleeding was uppermost in my mind) and he had a cleft palate. I
called my vet and he had not checked the mouth either because I had told him he was
fine. Shame on both of us!! Anyway, I was just going to keep the little guy warm and his tummy
full until morning and have him put down. About 2 hours later, he went to the Rainbow Bridge on
his own.
